When it comes to signature royal hairstyles, Meghan Markle is quickly becoming synonymous with a messy (yet chic!) bun. The bride-to-be has rocked the low-maintenance style on numerous occasions, including Thursday’s (April 19) appearance with Prince Harry at aWomen’s Empowerment reception held at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London. While her ensemble – a form-fitting cowl neck Black Halo dress and sky-high Aquazzura Milano cutout suede pumps – is sophistication personified, her low bun with loose hairs framing her face injects a pop of cool and modern elegance to her overall look.

The Duchess of Cambridge is partial to a bouncy blowout, but has been known to turn to an eye-catching bun from time to time. Unlike Kate’s chignons, which are usually slicked-back and incorporate braided details, Meghan, a true California girl, prefers to swoop her hair off her face into a loose and perfectly-imperfect bun.

HELLO! Canada dropped by one of Meghan’s go-to hair salons in Toronto to find out how the formerSuits star creates her effortlessly messy bun and discovered just how easy it is to recreate her royal locks. Owner Donna Dolphy says the first step is a full and bouncy blowout before crafting the chignon. “It’s a messy bun, so there’s not much detail to it,” she explains. Watch the video above for Donna’s step-by-step guide on how to master Meghan’s signature look!

It isn’t just the style of Meghan’s hair that has royal watchers switching up their ‘dos. The rich brown colour of the 36-year-old’s long locks is equally covetable. Toronto-based colourist and owner of Medulla & Co. salon Luis Pacheco helped bring Meghan’s hair to royal heights while she lived in the city.

Toronto-based colourist Luis Pacheco styled Meghan’s rich brown locks.

Speaking to Hello!, Luis explained: “Her colour, as you see, is very natural. It’s very reflective of who she is as a person.” He used glosses and minimal highlighting to create dimension and non-ammonia colours to enhance her natural pigment and create tone. “Her hair is delicate and she was acting then, so the least amount of chemical work that we did, the better it was for her hair,” added the stylist.
